SAW Acronym of Submerged Arc Welding and define the welding technology. It requires a continuously fed consumable solid electrode. The molten weld and the arc zone are protected from atmospheric contamination under a blanket of granular fusible flux consisting. This layer of flux completely covers the molten metal preventing spatter and sparks as well as suppressing the intense ultraviolet radiation and fumes that are a part of the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process.
This welding technology, on the OMM’s machine, is applied on the pole manufacturing process but the limitation is on the flat horizontal joint. Used for Single Shell Welding Machine or Welding machine for poles 3 - 4 Shells.

Shaft Semi finished product, realized by steel blank trapezium, bended and welded, without the finishing operation as plate welding, door opening, drilling and nuts welding.

Shearing machine Machine part of the “cut to length line”, used to cut to length the flattened blank. The machine is installed between the “leveller” and the “trapezium machine”. Is available with different dimension in term of blank width and thickness.

Shrink sleeve This is a sleeve that is shrunk by heat to fit around the part of the pole just above and below the surface of the earth.
Single shell welding line Machine to produce poles & high-mast, starting from single shell pole, up to 650 mm of diameter and 16 m length with technology MIG-MAG and SAW.

Steel sleeve A pipe element welded onto the pole, just above and below the surface of the earth, with length = 400 mm (or according to requirements).
Straight pole A straight pole onto which the luminaire is directly mounted at the top.
Straightener Machine part of the “cut to length line”, used to straight the ribbon removing the much bigger deformation. The machine is installed between the “decoiler” and the “edge trimmer”. Is available with different dimension in term of coil width and thickness.

Straightness deviation Deviation from the absolute straightness of a pole, with the measuring point located at the outer diameter of the pole.
Structural engineering calculations Structural-engineering proof of stability according to DIN EN 40.
Surface finish Decorative paint finish, powder, or wet finish coating.
Tool for conical pole  The whole of punching and die used to bend the blank and realize the conical round poles.

Top end of the pole The upper end of a pole, with the diameter given in mm.
Top expansion piece See Expansion piece or fitting.
Torsion The rotation of a pole around its own axis.
Tower  The whole of products realized by steel blank or pipe, used for : stadium lighting, telecommunication, high voltage distribution, container yard, etc...

Trapezium machine Machine part of the “cut to length line”, representing the core of this kind of line together with the “leveller machine”. Used to cut, starting from the parallelogram, the trapezium. The machine is installed between the “roller conveyor” and the “trapezium unloading station”. Is available with different dimension in term of blank width and thickness.

Trapezium Marking  Process used on poles manufacturing, to make some line on the trapezium top and bottom side, in order to have a reference line to align the trapezium under the press brake and bend correctly realizing a conical shell.

Underground depth See Underground length.
Underground length Length of the pole underneath the surface of the earth.
Weld-on nuts Nuts welded to the pole or to the pole section.
Wind zones National stipulations governing the wind velocities to be assumed in a region for structural-engineering calculations.
